Chisinau, from the bottom of our Veronese
friend’s heart a family-house for homeless girls
At last in Chisinau there are also night’s lodgings for homeless girls. Up until some weeks ago the girls have taken refuge a little here a little there, thanks to the generosity of Silesian Nuns of Sacred Hearts, who have tried as they might to find place for these girls in their own house in Chsinau. Now it was fit out an environment all asgd them, not far from the operating one for more and more numerous homeless children. The structure is already in operation and the next few weeks it will work in full regime.
The accomplishment of an appropriate environment for homeless girls is completely due to the generosity of «Group of Friends of S. Chiara» of Verona, leaded by Paolo Passeroni and Mario Serpelloni, who expressed their willingness to raise necessary funds. Moreover, it was assigned to the new house for girls the prize, the Institute for Elder’s Assistance of Verona, leaded by Jole Biondetti Cardi, had awarded to Regina Pacis the last February 18. The prize foresees a sum of money to be used for a project of management of house for homeless girls. In addition, in occasion of presentation of prizes ceremony held in Verona, it was decided to organize a travel in Moldova, in order to get to know closer the work of Regina Pacis Fund and «to plunge into», as don Cesare Lodeserto said, the world of the destitute and their anxiety. «Go to the site – said don Cesare – enter the homes of these people and share with them the meagre and poor meal, it means to attach an extra significance to the choice of presentation of San Martino prize».
We present hereby the declaration of don Cesare Lodeserto, who tells us personally how few weeks was born the project for homeless girl’s house.
«None from them, who one evening of last October made Irina get out the car, well know she has no place where to live, could forget the event. We were in three me, Stefano, Simone and Emanuele. We had left Irina on the road board in front of an Ortodox church and went away. As soon as we went away a profound silence fell in the car, maybe a deep sense of guilt. Feelings of feebleness, grudge, and compassion were overfilling every one of us. None said a word, maybe the soundest decision was to return back and take with us Irina, offering her a shelter, maybe even offering her a night’s lodgment in our own home. We didn’t do anything. May be it was our fault.
We still kept in our memory for long time that evening and even more the images of what happened, images that were revealing during our meetings, because have not removed anything, being conscious we should do something, sooner or later. Simone had mentioned it in Moldova: "We should open a house for girls". Stefano had always recognized the suffering of that moment: "Since than I have a lump in my throat".
After four month we can affirm that Irina has won her battle: she has a roof over her head, has a warm bed, friend sharing her room with, friends assisting and taking care of her. Let say he has also a family-house now.
All this was possible thanks to other Stefano, big fan of Moldova, who together with his wife Sabrina introduced us Mario, who in his turn could collect the sum of money necessary to open the house for girls, offering them meal, family warmth, of one big family fond of solidarity. Mario is the one who deserves a particular mention for his testimony of devotion to others in spite of illness, a devotion that is a model of service and love; his courage to fight against the illness comes from the strong opinion that Lord still needs him to help the destitute.
Few days ago I visited the new-opening family-house in Chisinau: I saw three girls watching the TV, wearing their pyjamas and glad to have a bed. Among them was also Irina. I understood even greater the significant of that house, seeing the snow falling down and the outside temperature below zero. I’m sure if were Stefano, Simone and Emanuele here with me, they will also go to bed in one of the house’s room, because this is their new family » (Don Cesare Lodeserto, February 1, 2005).
Meanwhile, at Tiraspol, in Transdnestria, are continuing the works for construction of Children’s house.
